Why the World Needs You
By Krista Rundiks

You didn’t fit in,
so they didn’t like you.
They tried to be mean,
as it made them feel better.

You thought differently,
and it wasn’t accepted.
You came close to giving up,
pushed past being rejected.

You felt isolated in a crowded place,
smiles erased on a strangers face.
Voices blurred into muted background,
retreating to nature, seeking to be found.

Then you realized you weren’t so alone,
watching the birds fly freely in their home.
Perching peacefully around your being,
underneath a silver sky of seeing.

You saw the green yearning everywhere,
reaching to the tip of the world.
You felt the sun unveil the gray,
as birdsong chorus adorned the day.

The people you tried to work with
wanted to silence your voice.
For fear of their own failure,
they deliberately removed your choice.

You started to doubt yourself,
forgetting your own worth.
You are a blooming, resilient flower,
growing tall from an abundant Earth.

As you gaze into the vast blue sky,
an endless sea where dreams can fly.
More than your eye can ever see,
whispers of a bright destiny.
