Waking Up
Waking Up
By Krista Rundiks
You can tell the air has changed
The light is a different color
Soft-yellow and splashes of gold
Shimmer through the desert bush
The will of nature waking up
Seen by the strength of tulips
Peaking through the bottom layer
of autumn mulch and semi-frozen ground
The strength of a lone chickadee
Peacefully perched in the morning sparkle
With a free will anticipating growth
Yearning for unknown possibilities
Recently flown away from a barren
Cold, bottomless place where
The glitter of dreams were clouded by
Man’s exclusion, greed, and ego
Time had once stood still
In the darkness of the clouds
When one day, the strength to fly
Was found in a forgotten shimmer
Waking up the soul
Setting the will of being a blaze
Igniting small wings with strength
To fly out of the bottomless place
